PLAYGROUND DESIGN COMPETITION IS CHILDS PLAY
Lucie Smith from Hurlford Primary was the proud winner of Leisure Development’s EA Positive Play ‘Big Play Experiment’ competition which was held during national School Grounds Week.
Forty four primary schools were involved in the ‘Big Play Experiment’ and took part in activities which promoted greater use of their school grounds. Each school was also given the chance to enter a playground games design competition.

East Ayrshire Council’s Countryside Services enlisted the support of local school children to plant a hedgerow along the Lugar Water Trail at Dumfries Estate.
Pupils from St John’s, Ochiltree, Netherthird, Greenmill, Auchinleck, Barshare, St Patricks, Logan and Hillside Primary Schools joined secondary pupils from Auchinleck Academy and Cumnock Academy to plant almost 6,000 trees.

YOUTH LITERACIES SUCCESS GETS AN AIRING
As a result of the great work they have been doing locally, two Youth Literacies workers were recently interviewed for a Radio 1 programme to be broadcast in mid-April.
Youth Literacy workers Lewis Atha and Natasha Partington, who help 16-25 year olds to develop literacy and numeracy skills, took part in a Radio 1Xtra interview, along with one of their learners. The Determined to Succeed team from East Ayrshire Council’s Education Department hosted a Business Breakfast in Kilmarnock’s Park Hotel last week.

EASTER FUN AT THE DEAN
Join the Countryside Rangers this Easter weekend for some traditional fun and games. The Rangers will be at Woodroad Park, Cumnock on Saturday 3 April from 1pm for an afternoon of egg painting, rolling and hunting.

WORK STARTS ON NEW AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN KILMARNOCK
The construction of ten new affordable houses at MacDonald Drive in Kilmarnock is now underway.
This development is Phase One of the Council’s affordable home building programme and will provide suitable housing for older / ambulant disabled people.

A RADICAL EXPERIENCE FOR YOUNG LEARNERS
Children who had been working with artists in their schools put on a ‘radical’ show of their own at The Dick in Kilmarnock last Friday.
Pupils from six East Ayrshire schools had met with visiting artists since February to explore themes linked to the Radical Nature art exhibition currently showing at the Dick Institute, The Baird and Cumnock and Doon Valley Museum.

A local secondary school has won an award for its excellent school-college partnership, providing the best possible experiences for pupils.

AN EGGS- ELLENT EASTER FOR NURSERY KIDS
Altonhill Youth Strategy’s young people have made sure that local toddlers will have a good Easter.
As part of a recent enterprise project, the Youth Strategy group made telephone calls around the local community, seeking donations of Easter eggs – and even organised and decorated collection boxes.
The kind-hearted kids then donated a grand total of 150 Easter eggs to under-fives at Hillbank Nursery and Family Centre in North West Kilmarnock Area Centre – making sure that every single child received ..read more Read more
