EAST AYRSHIRE LOCAL PLAN MOVES TOWARDS ADOPTION
Future development in East Ayrshire is looking optimistic as the latest local plan is close to being formally adopted. Agreement was reached at the Council’s Cabinet week, bringing together its strategy, a vision of land use for East Ayrshire to 2017 and beyond which actively promotes the economic, social and physical development of East Ayrshire and all of its communities.

FUNDING SUCCESS FOR NEW COUNCIL HOUSING
East Ayrshire Council has been given the green light by the Scottish Government to build six new council houses at Newlands Drive, Kilmarnock and four new council houses at Rosebank, Kilmarnock.
In 2008 the Scottish Government announced a programme of £25m of funding to encourage a new generation of Council house building. The Council has already been successful with two funding bids and work is already underway on ten new affordable houses at MacDonald Drive, Kilmarnock.

ANNUAL TENANTS CONFERENCE 2010
Tenants and residents gathered in Kilmarnock recently for the seventh annual tenant’s conference at the Park Hotel.
Over 60 members of the local community attended the event to learn more about the future of housing in East Ayrshire. Delegates attended workshops on Homelessness, Housing Asset Services and Rent Setting and presentations were given by Elizabeth Morton, Depute Chief Executive/ Executive Director of Neighbourhood Services and Chris McAleavey, Head of Housing. TENANTS RECOGNISED FOR COMMUNITY WORK
East Gauchalland Tenants and Residents Association were recognised as national leaders within the tenants’ movement at the Tenants Information Service’s Annual Conference Gala Dinner recently.
The group from Galston was awarded the Frances Nelson MBE Award for outstanding achievements and contribution to the tenants’ movement. Frank and Maureen Dawson – Chairperson and Secretary – were delighted to accept the award on behalf of the group.

NEW RECYCLING SCHEME PLANNED FOR EAST AYRSHIRE
Thanks to the support of our residents East Ayrshire is a leading recycling authority.
Recycling rates are sitting at 43%, well above national targets, and the Council has been praised by the Scottish Government for our success. This is undoubtedly good news but the current infrastructure will only support a maximum recycling rate of 44% which means that if we continue with the status quo we will be unable to achieve our recycling target of 45% by 2011.

TEMPORARY RELOCATION OF LOCAL RECYCLING POINT AT CUMNOCK
The Recycling Point located within the car park at Somerfield supermarket in Cumnock has been temporarily relocated to the rear of Cumnock Juniors F.C Social Club in Townhead Street, Cumnock.
As Cumnock residents will be aware, the Somerfield supermarket site has been acquired by Asda and is currently undergoing a programme of refurbishment.
