A71 ROAD REPAIRS TO COMMENCE
Resurfacing works are due to commence on the section of the A71 between Moorfield Roundabout and Corsehill Roundabout.
The repairs are required after the section of road suffered badly as a result of the previous severe winter.
During the spring and early summer the speed on this section of road was reduced to 50 mph for safety reasons until the repairs could be organised and financed.

ROADWORKS AT HIGH GLENCAIRN STREET
From Sunday 1 August 2010 to Sunday 8 August 2010 East Ayrshire Council’s Road Maintenance Unit will be carrying out resurfacing works at High Glencairn Street, East Shaw Street and West Shaw Street, Kilmarnock.
This £150,000 project will involve removing the existing road surface, kerbing, regulating and final resurfacing of 366 metres of carriageway. ROAD SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS
Road safety measures introduced by East Ayrshire Council have had a dramatic effect on the number of children killed or seriously injured on our roads.
Over the past five years no children have been killed on our roads and there has been a significant decline in the number of children seriously injured. In 2008, 7 children were seriously injured whereas in 2009 this figure fell to zero!

ROAD IMPROVEMENTS COMPLETED ON A70
East Ayrshire’s roads are now safer thanks to two road improvement schemes recently completed on the A70 at Coalhall and Mote Toll by the Council’s Roads and Transportation Section.
The road improvement scheme at Coalhall has significantly improved sightlines at the junction with the B730 route to Stair, for vehicles emerging on to the A70. This has greatly enhanced road safety.

From Monday 5 July East Ayrshire Council’s Roads Maintenance Unit will be carrying out resurfacing works on the A71 – Galston to Hurlford.
This £255,000 project will involve removing part of the existing road surface, kerbing, drainage, regulating and resurfacing a 1690 metre length of carriageway.

BANNER WINNER IS STREETS AHEAD
Danni Gillespie from Hurlford Primary was streets ahead of the competition with her winning banner design and slogan to encourage young people and their parents to walk to school.

INSTITUTION OF LIGHTING ENGINEERS
Len Paget, East Ayrshire Council’s Street Lighting Manager, has been appointed as Scottish Chairman of the Institution of Lighting Engineers.
Len was elected to this prestigious role by members of the ILE Scottish Region and will hold the post for a year. Commuters in East Ayrshire are being urged to walk their way to a healthier lifestyle during national Walk to Work Week (26 – 30 April 2010).
