We continue to give priority to burst pipes and the reinstatement of heating systems.
Building and Works Staff have worked from 8 am-7 pm each day this week. It is likely we will continue with increased resources over the weekend, to address any backlog or handle emergencies.
Five teams have been prioritised to carry out repairs in properties where there has been damage caused by burst pipes. Priority will be given to homes with elderly or vulnerable residents.

We continue to carry out the gritting service in the evening and overnight, since road surface temperatures remain below zero at night.
Staff and contractors are working in minor roads and residential areas to address issues caused by parked cars.
We are currently targeting possible problems associated with road defects and potholing repairs commenced today.

All schools are now open and functioning. Adult Day Care Centres have been open but attendance has been reduced due to difficult conditions underfoot. It is anticipated that Centres will become fully functional on Monday.
Berryknowe remains closed due to difficulties with the heating system, but it is hoped that this facility will become operational in the near future.

Strathclyde Fire & Rescue has renewed its warning about the dangers of walking on iced-over ponds and rivers. The thaw is increasing the risk of people and animals falling through into frigid water.
Strathclyde Fire & Rescue pointed out that firefighters would not risk lives attempting to rescue animals that had fallen through ice.
Now that the thaw has arrived, the potential danger is even greater. Adults are asked not to let children or pets walk on areas of iced-over water.

All main roads are clear and gritting is continuing on minor and residential roads. School transport issues have been resolved.
We are now working steadily to clear footways for pedestrians.
As the thaw continues, the next phase will focus on dealing with potholes and major roads defects that have occurred as a result of freezing temperatures.

East Ayrshire Council’s salt depots took delivery of 170 tonnes of salt yesterday. This brings current salt stocks to approximately 700 tonnes – sufficient for 3 to 4 days gritting under current conditions.

Leisure & Recreation – update Tuesday 12 January
Auchinleck Comunity Centre closed rest of week, part for boiler and pipe work needs replaced. Bursts fixed. Let for weekend transferred to Auchinleck Academy.
Bonnyton CEC re-opened this week - normal arrangements resume.
Catrine CEC, closed today, water main burst and no water. Lets cancelled for rest of week.
Dalrymple remains closed, pipes frozen outside underground.
Patna Local Office and Library is closed until further notice due to burst pipes.

Only one school remains closed – Witchhill Primary School, closed due to frozen pipes between the water main and the school. Pupils have been relocated to Shortlees Primary and Annanhill Primary. Janitor and Asset Management monitoring the situation.

Buildings & Works – update Wednesday 13 January
The helpline is still busy with many calls, but we have halved the number of gas central heating jobs we are dealing with today, compared to yesterday. We are also working hard to fix a large number of burst pipes, mainly in the Kilmarnock area, due to the thaw. We continue to supply water to residents in need.
In Cumnock area however, many water pipes remain frozen and snow is still lying. Snow is forecast for Dalmellington area this afternoon.
