NEW ICE DANGER WARNING

Strathclyde Fire & Rescue has renewed its warning about the dangers of walking on iced-over ponds and rivers. The thaw is increasing the risk of people and animals falling through into frigid water.

 Strathclyde Fire & Rescue pointed out that firefighters would not risk lives attempting to rescue animals that had fallen through ice.

 Now that the thaw has arrived, the potential danger is even greater. Adults are asked not to let children or pets walk on areas of iced-over water.

Burst Water Mains – Sunday 10 January 2010

A number of water mains across East Ayrshire have burst due to the adverse weather conditions. This is resulting on loss of water pressure in certain areas. Scottish Water are working round the clock to resolve the problems and ask everyone to be patient.

If you see water rising and suspect a burst, please notify Scottish Water

Public urged to take sensible precautions as freeze continues in East Ayrshire

East Ayrshire Council is holding its own as employees continue in their efforts to keep main routes and services running.

As schools have returned for the new term today only one remains shut – Fenwick Primary is affected by a mains water problem within the village. Updates on the situation will be available on the Council’s website and local radio stations. All other schools are currently open.
